2008 PRESIDENTIAL ENDORSEMENT The ILWU International Executive Board has voted overwhelmingly to endorse Senator Barack Obama for President. The decision was made after a lengthy process in which major candidates and/or their top campaign staff were interviewed. HOLLYWOOD TO THE DOCKS The ILWU is working together with the LA County Federation of Labor and other union groups to organize an ALL-LABOR MARCH that will take place April 15,16,17, 2008, winding up on the docks on April 17th for a 6:00 p.m. rally at Berth 87. The purpose of this rally is to focus attention on the fight for good jobs . . meaning UNION jobs. In 2008, labor contracts covering 350,000 workers in Los Angeles county will expire, in fields ranging from longshore to janitors, teachers to actors. This MARCH FOR GOOD JOBS will end at a huge rally in San Pedro at 6:00 p.m. on April 17, 2008 at Berth 87. The ILWU wants to turn out thousands of our workers to highlight our own LONGSHORE CONTRACT STRUGGLE. About Local 13Local 13 is the Longshore division of the Southern California Los Angeles / Long Beach harbors area. It is the largest local on the West Coast and currently has over 7000 registrants. The membership has continued to grow to service the needs of the largest port complex in the United States. The combined Los Angeles and Long Beach harbors cargo volume has continued to expand through the strong effort of Local 13 and their adaptive workforce. They are moving the world’s goods, one container at a time, millions of time a year.
